The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, using a general anesthesia for your utmost comfort. Depending on what is being done, Dr. Patel will use one of two different surgical techniques. These are:
• The closed procedure. In this approach, incisions are hidden inside the nose.
• An open procedure. With this technique, a single incision is made across the columella, the thin column of tissue between the nostrils.
Dr. Patel has performed each technique hundreds of times and will select the one that best suits your needs and goals. Following your rhinoplasty, a splint and/or packing is placed inside the nose from 5-7 days to facilitate healing. Initially, there’ll be some swelling and bruising, but this will gradually dissipate within a few weeks, at which point you will be able to camouflage any leftover discoloration in the area with make-up, if need be. Swelling will continue to decrease for as much as a full year. By then the final results of your new news be fully evident.
