What is Juvederm®?

Juvederm is one of a number of dermal fillers made from a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance produced naturally by the body that adds youthful volume to the face. However, as we age the natural production of hyaluronic acid decreases. When injected into facial lines, wrinkles and creases, Juverderm plumps up the crevasses, leaving skin smoother and substantially younger looking. Juvederm is the go-to filler choice for adding mid-face volume, one of the most noticeable place volume is often lost as we age.  By adding mid-face volume, the cheeks are also lifted. in turn are lifted. For that reason, Juvederm is nicknamed “a liquid facelift.” In addition, Juvederm is also often used add fullness to thin lips and fill under eye hollows, that give the appearance of being tired.

How does Juverderm work?

As the Juvederm gel is injected, it replenishes the natural hyaluronic acid that’s dissipated over time. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar-based compound that helps keep moisture and nutrient levels in our skin cells, which creates the appearance of volume that leaves skin both smoother, more youthful-looking. Treatments typically takes only about 30 minutes and requires absolutely now downtime. Many patients take advantage of this procedure during their lunch break.

Are the injections painful?

They may cause minor discomfort. However, most patients find treatment highly tolerable. For those who are especially sensitive or are afraid of needles, Dr. Patel can apply a numbing cream in advanced. Afterward treatment there may be some minor redness and possibly swelling. Both will resolve quickly on their own.

How long will the results of my Juvederm treatment last?

Every patient is different, of course. But in general, Juvederm lasts up to a full year, and for some even longer. Benefits gradually fade, at which point treatment can be repeated.
