SKIN CANCER EXCISION AND RECONSTRUCTION
Skin cancer depending on the type may be treated by excision and then closure of the wound. Smaller skin cancers may be excised in the office under local anesthesia. Dr. Patel also works with Moh’s surgeons to reconstruct defects from cancer excisions. Dr. Patel will plan the reconstruction of the defect to allow for the best possible aesthetic outcome.
Scar Revision
Scars may be caused from trauma, burns, acne or previous surgery. Scar revision is an individualized procedure. The type of revision depends on the location of the scar and type of deformity caused by the scar.
Scars can inhibit function if they are causing contracture of a joint and limiting range of motion. This can happen from burns to the neck, axilla or any other joint. Dr. Patel treats these type of burn scars with excision, Z-plasty, skin graft, local flaps and also with free tissue transfer which involves microsurgery.
